Lofton-Malachi Earns W-League Honor
was selected to the United Soccer League (USL) W-League honorable mention team of the week on June 4.
The award was for the seventh week of the USL season and the fourth edition of the W-League Team of the Week for the year.
Lofton-Malachi notched honorable mention honors for this week’s W-League Team of the Week after her 9-save, 0-goals allowed performance in the first half of a 1-0 win against the Richmond Kickers Destiny. She has appeared in five games for the Hellenic on the season and has notched 226 minutes of action. more The Bradenton Athletics kicked off the month of June with a bang. Baines named to WPSL Team of Week
Another top headline from the S.C. is the undefeated start of the Cocoa
Expos, who have made the switch from the W-League with flying colors. Baines the former Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year for the University of Central Florida and star at Satellite High scored a goal and an assist, and snuffed out every F.C. Thomasville attack in their win over the Georgia-based side.

Hellenic Suffer Two Straight Losses
Tampa, FL - The Tampa Bay Hellenic lost two straight road matches
this weekend, ending up on the wrong end up a 4-2 decision against the Charlotte Lady Eagles on Friday night before being shutout 6-0 versus the Atlanta Silverbacks on Saturday night. Alicia Tirelli was a bright spot for the Hellenic (4-3-0, 12 pts), notching both goals again the Lady Eagles (7-1-0, 21 pts). Tampa Bay struck first, with Tirelli getting on the scoreboard in the 3rd minute. Charlotte would go on to score four unanswered goals before Tirelli ended the scoring in the 8th minute. more

Tampa, FL - The Tampa Bay Hellenic won back-to-back games this weekend, defeating the Hampon Roads Piranhas and West Virginia Illusion by identical 3-0 scores. Against the Piranhas (0-2-0) on Saturday night, Tampa Bay (2-1-0) scored their first goal of the season when Leah O'Grady converted a pass from former University of Florida Gator Stacy Bishop in the 20th minute. The Hellenic would not look back, adding scores by Staci Wilson and Morgan Church.
The Illusion (0-1-0) were playing their first regular season match in franchise history, but early on in the match Bishop struck again, this time scoring off a free kick to put the Hellenic up 1-0. Scottish international Rhonda Jones doubled the Hellenics lead prior to halftime. Tampa Bay's newest aquisitions, Marika Fukuta and O'Grady, would combine on the third and final goal, with Fukuta notching her first goal of the season.
The Hellenic will be back on the road this Wednesday, May 21, when they take on the Bradenton Athletics in a rematch of the first regular season game, which Tampa Bay lost 1-0. That match will be played at IMG Academy at 5:30 p.m. The Hellenic's next home match is Saturday, May 31, against the Richmond Kickers Destiny at 8 p.m.
The Tampa Bay Hellenic are a member of the USL W-League, which will see 41 teams compete during the 2008 season.
Hellenic Roster to Include Local High School, College and National Talent

Tampa, FL - The Tampa Bay Hellenic are proud to announce the first players signed for the 2008 season. The roster is filled with players who have played locally at the high school and collegiate level, as well as players with National Team experience. All signings are pending USL/US Soccer approval.
The first year team welcomes two products of the University of Florida, Stacy Bishop and Shana Hudson. Bishop, who played her first two collegiate seasons at Louisiana State University, was an All-South Eastern Conference (SEC) First Team and All-America Third Team selection in 2006, and added SEC Tournament MVP to her resume in 2007. She tallied 43 goals and 28 assists in her collegiate career. Bishop also won the 2003 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) 2A title with Land O’Lakes High School. Hudson started every match at right back for the Gators in 2006 and 2007, and accumulated four goals and 11 assists in four years. She was a four year letter winner at East Lake High School, leading the team in scoring in 2001 and 2002.
Rhonda Jones is a member of the Scottish National Team, having amassed 55 caps, including playing the full 90 minutes in a 2-1 loss to Denmark on Apr. 27. As a midfielder at Florida Atlantic University, Jones was named to the All-Atlantic Sun Conference team three times, and was the Conference Player of the Year in 2003. She is among the top 5 career-leaders in seven categories, including goals, assists, games played and games started.
The Hellenic squad will also boast an Olympic gold medal winner in Staci Wilson. Wilson was a member of the 1996 Olympic team. She also starred for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels, where she won three National Championships (1994, 1996, 1997) while being named an All-America all four years. She went on to win a W-League Championship in 1999 with the Raleigh Wings, and later played for the Carolina Courage of the Women’s United Soccer Association (2000-02).
Jenna Ball (University of South Florida, Tampa Bay Prep), Gabi Rivera (Auburn, Durant HS), Alicia Tirelli (Florida Atlantic, Durant HS/Tampa Bay Prep) and Mallori Lofton-Malachi (University of South Florida) round out the current players with local ties.
The Hellenic will open their inaugural W-League season at home against the Bradenton Athletics this Sunday, May 11, at Ed Radice Sports Complex at 2 p.m.
